281 aspiring candidates including nine women approved to contest 10th Manipur State Assembly Election

Imphal: With the final day of filing nomination papers having passed, the scrutiny of the nominations was conducted today wherein 281 aspiring candidates including 9 women candidates have been cleared for the 10th Manipur State Assembly Election scheduled on January 28 .

According to reports from the State Election Office, 8 nominations have been rejected on various grounds while the judgment on one nomination has been reserved.

The rejected nominations include 5 from Churachandpur, 1 each from Jiribam, Bishnupur and Thoubal A/C.The one nomination on whom judgement has been reserved is from Heirok A/C .

Among those candidates whose nominations have been approved include 50 from Imphal East, 65 from Imphal West, 28 from Bishnupur district, 43 from Thoubal district, 28 from Bishnupur district, 14 from Chandel district, 16 from Ukhrul district, 21 from Senapati district, 10 from Tamenglong district and 34 from Churachandpur district.

The Congress has fielded candidates in all the 60 constituencies of the state.

In the 11 constituencies of Imphal East, the Trinamool Congress will be contesting in 10 seats, NCP in 6 seats, BJP in 4 seats, CPI in7 seats, MSCP in 9 seats and MPP in one seat.

In Imphal West the Trinamool Congress will be contesting in 121 seats, NCP and MSCP will be contesting in 7 seats each, BJP and CPI in 5 seats each and the JDU in one seat.

In Thoubal district where there are 10 seats, the Trinamool Congress will be contesting in 6 seats, MPP and MSCP in 5 seats each while BJP and CPI will be contesting in 4 seats each.

In Bishnupur district where there are 6 seats, the Trinamool Congress and MPP will be contesting in 4 seats each, MSCP in 3 seats while NCP and CPI will be contesting in 3 seats each.

In Chandel district the Congress, NPF, CPI and Trinamool Congress will be contesting in all the 2 seats while BJP and MSCP will be contesting in one seat each only.

NPF and MSCP will be contesting in all the 3 seats while Trinamool Congress will be contesting in only one seat.

In Churachandpur district where there are 6 seats, the Trinamool Congress will be contesting in 5 seats, NCP in 4 seats and CPI in 1 seat.

In Ukhrul district the Congress and NPF will be contesting in all the three seats, Trinamool Congress in 2 seats while NCP and MSCP in one seat only.

Even though the numbers of female voters are much higher than the males, the number of female candidates contesting in the election is considerably low with only 8 candidates filing their nominations.

They include Waikhom Shyama of INC in Lanthabal A/C, O Indira of BJP in Thoubal A/C, O Landhoni of INC in Khangabok A/C, AK Meerabai of INC in Patsoi A/C, Th Bidyasakhi of Shiv Sena in Bishnupur A/C, M Sakhi Leima of CPI in Konthoujam A/C, SS Olish as an independent candidate in Chandel A/C and Y Romola of CPI in Keishamthong.
