In Assam, nine militant outfits actively involved in underground activities in the State will lay down arms before the Republic Day on 26th of this month.

This was disclosed by the State Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at a press conference in Dispur today. The outfits include-five Adivasi and three Kuki underground groups besides Hmar Peoples Convention (HPC). These outfits have already declared unilateral ceasefire expressing desire to sit for peace talks with the Government to settle their issues amicably.
Rejecting the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) outfit’s demand for creation of a separate ‘Bodoland State’, the Chief Minister stated that territorial integrity will not be allowed to be disturbed while negotiating with the militant outfits. He mentioned that talks with three militant outfits-Karbi Longri N.C.Hills Liberation Front (KLNLF) and two factions of Dima Halam Daogah (DHD) are in the final stage for signing formal agreement.
