DIMAPUR, JUN 10 (EMN): Following the recovery of the body of a boy suspected to be from the Northeast from India gate, yet another body of a girl believed to be fro'm Northeast was recovered by Delhi police on Wednesday.

The body of the woman, believed to be aged around 18-22 years of age was found stuffed in a gunny bag near a canal in the Yamuna Khadar region at Old Usmanpur on Wednesday.

“Some passers-by noticed a sack with a hand protruding out. The victim is between 18-22 years old and seems to hail from the northeast, police said.

“Prima facie, it looks like a case of murder as the body bore several injury marks. It appears the murder took place at least 48 to 72 hours ago,’’ said a senior investigating officer.

“The body was wrapped in a bed-sheet and tied with ropes. It is clear the victim was murdered elsewhere and her body dumped here,’’ a police officer said.

The body has been kept at GTB Hospital for the next 72 hours for identification.
In what is now becoming an increasingly disturbing trend, this is the sixth incident in the city this year where a woman’s body has been found in a sack, a National daily reported.

NSUD president Boveio Poukai Duo speaking to Eastern Mirror also confirmed the incident however said the body is yet to be identified. He said executives from NSUD had gone to bear out the identification of the body at the morgue, however, could not ascertain whether she was a Naga or not. But it is almost certain that she hails from Northeast, he said. The police also refused to comment whether the girl was raped or not, it was learnt. “However, from the way the dead body was found without any clothes on and wrapped in a bed-sheet, it is apparent that she has been sexually assaulted,” Duo stated. Details can only be ascertained after the postmortem report, he added.

Meanwhile, NSUD informed that the dead body of the teenage boy recovered from India Gate compound and suspected to be a northeasterner is yet to be identified with no one coming in to claim the body.
With countless of aspiring students from Northeast camping in Delhi for admission purposes,  officials of different NE students’ bodies has voiced out hopelessness on keeping a tap on the identifies of the new entrants and thus making it impossible for identification during such circumstances.
