In the 58th National Film Awards, three filmmakers from Manipur made their mark, winning the best Science & Technology, Best Ethnographic and Special mention Awards in the non-feature categories. Manipur filmmakers are making their marks in the national film scenario with three Manipuri filmmakers, barging their way through.
Heart to Heart by Bachaspatimayum Sunzu based on a project by the Rotary Club of Imphal of treating children from poor economic background with Congenital Heart Defects won the Best documentary in the Science and Technology category.
Songs of Mashangva by Oinam Doren on the Tangkhul Folk singer of Manipur fighting to keep alive the dying Tangkhul folk tradition won the Best ethnographic film.
Haobam Ronel’s documentary The Zeliangrongs won a Special mention category.
Heart to Heart is based a real life drama of a child born with two holes in his heart and how his health problem prevented him a normal child until the Heart to Heart Project by Rotary Club of Imphal. Produced by the Rotary Club of Imphal, this Award bestowed on Heart to Heart means a lot for CHD awareness says its executive Producer and Director. Sunju is also a senior journalist and is associated with NETV as its Manipur bureau chief since 2004. It may be mentioned that Sunzu has also received three National Awards including the Best Non Feature Film and Best Exploration Film awards.
