Innovative Young Biotechnologist Fellowships 2011

The Department of Biotechnology invites applications from the young researchers/scholars for considering ‘Innovative Young Biotechnologists Award’ (IYBA) for the year 2010. This award was instituted by the DBT in the year 2005, as an attractive, career-oriented scheme to identify and nurture outstanding young scientists with innovative ideas and desire to pursue research in frontier areas of biotechnology.

The award will consist of financial support for a project and Cash Award/fellowship for the awardees. Awardees having a regular employment will receive a cash award of Rs.1.00/- lakh every year during the course of the project in addition to grant-in-aid of about Rs. 40.00/- Lakhs for a project. The awardees, those are not in the regular employment will receive a fellowship of Rs. 40,000/- per month and shall be attached to a Senior Scientist (Mentor) in a University, Research Institute, Medical/Agriculture/ Veterinary College or any other institute of repute.

It is expected that the awardees will work independently and the Mentor will facilitate the awardees research efforts.

UGC: National Eligibility Test for JRF & Lectureship(Dec.2010)

The National Educational Testing Bureau of University Grants Commission (UGC) will conduct National Eligibility Test (NET December 2010) to determine eligibility for lectureship and for award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) for Indian nationals in order to ensure minimum standards for the entrants in the teaching profession and research in the field of Humanities (including languages), Social Sciences, Forensic Science, Environmental Sciences, Computer Science and Applications and Electronic Science.

CONDITIONS OF ELIGIBILITY
i) Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree OR equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognised by UGC in Humanities (including languages) and Social Sciences, Computer Science & Applications, Electronic Science etc. are eligible for this Test. The Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Physically Handicapped (PH)/Visually Handicapped (VH) category candidates who have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent examination are eligible for this Test.
ii) Candidates who have appeared OR will be appearing at the qualifying Master’s degree (final year) examination and whose result is still awaited OR candidates whose qualifying examinations have been delayed may also apply for this Test. However, such candidates will be admitted provisionally and shall be considered eligible for award of JRF/Lectureship eligibility only after they have passed their Master’s degree examination or equivalent with at least 55% marks (50% marks in case of SC/ST/PH/VH category candidates). Such candidates must complete their P.G. degree examination within two years from the date of NET result with required percentage of marks, failing which they shall be treated as disqualified.
iii) The Ph.D. degree holders whose Master’s level examination had been completed by 19th September, 1991 (irrespective of date of declaration of result) shall be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks (i.e., from 55% to 50%) for appearing in NET.
iv) Candidates are advised to appear in the subject of their post-graduation only. The candidates whose post-graduation subject is not covered in the list of subjects in item No. 9, may appear in a related subject.
v) Candidates seeking concession in fee are required to submit attested copy of their OBC(Non-creamy layer)/SC/ST/PH/VH certificate along with online printout of their Application Forms (obtained while applying on-line). Other candidates are not required to submit any certificates/documents in support of their eligibility alongwith printout of their Application Form. Therefore, the candidates, in their own interest, must satisfy themselves about their eligibility for the Test. In the event of any ineligibility being detected by the Commission at any stage, their candidature will be cancelled and they shall be liable for legal action.
vi) Candidates with post-graduate diploma/certificate course(s), should in their own interest, ascertain the equivalence of their course(s) with Master’s degree of recognized Indian universities from Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi.

AGE LIMIT & RELAXATION :

i) Junior Research Fellowship: Not more than 28 years as on 01.12.2010. A relaxation upto 5 years is provided to the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PH/VH categories and to women applicants. Relaxation will also be provided to the candidates having research experience, limited to the period spent on research in the relevant/related subject of post-graduation degree, subject to a maximum of 5 years, on production of a certificate from appropriate authority. Three years’ relaxation in age will be permissible to the candidates possessing L.L.M. Degree. Total age relaxation on the above ground(s) shall not exceed five years under any circumstances.

ii) Lectureship: There is no upper age limit for applying for lectureship eligibility.

EXAMINATION FEE
General Candidates: Rs.450/-
Other Backward Classes : Rs.225/-
SC/ST/PH/VH candidates: Rs.110/-

MODE OF PAYMENT
» The candidate is expected to fill the Bank Challan Form in triplicate (Bank Copy, UGC Copy & Candidate’s Copy) as given in the Notification.

» All the three copies of the Challan Form have to be submitted in any branch of State Bank of India along with the bank charges (commission) of Rs.20/-.

» The bank will retain one copy and return two copies of the challan to the candidate.

» The candidate has to attach the UGC copy of the challan with the printout of online Application Form which he/she has to submit to the Registrar of UGC-NET Centre opted by the candidate.

» Please note that fee submitted by any other mode like money order, demand draft, IPO etc. will be rejected.

» Fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.

ENCLOSURES TO BE SENT WITH THE APPLICATION

The candidates should send the following documents with print out of their online application form (two copies), Attendance Slip (one copy) and Admission Card (one copy on separate A-4 size papers) :

i) Copy of Bank Challan (UGC copy).

ii) Attested copies of SC/ST/Visually Handicapped/Physically Handicapped/ OBC (Non creamy layer) certificates, in case applicable.

iii) Certificate of educational qualification/research experience, in case applicable, entitling the candidate for age relaxation, duly attested by a Gazetted Officer.

iv) Two self addressed unstamped envelopes of 10” X 4” size.

HOW TO APPLY (APPLICATIONS HAVE TO BE SUBMITTED ONLINE) : STEPS FOR SUBMISSION OF ONLINE APPLICATION FORM

i) The candidates are required to download the Bank Challan Performa from the UGC website OR take photocopy from the UGC-NET Notification published in the Employment News and then deposit the requisite test fee in any branch of State Bank of India along with the bank charges (commission) of Rs.20/-.

ii) Before applying Online, the candidates must possess the following : (i) Scanned passport (pp) size photograph in JPEG format should be less then 300kb, (ii) Copy of Bank Challan (fee receipt)

iii) Candidate seeking admission to the Test must apply online (i.e. www.ugcnetonline.in OR through a link available on the UGC website: www.ugc.ac.in).

iv) After successful submission, the candidate should take printout of online Application Form (two copies), Attendance Slip (one copy) and Admission Card (one copy) on separate A-4 size papers.

v) SC/ST/PH/VH candidates and candidates belonging to OBC (as per the Central list of OBC available on website : www.ncbc.nic.in ) must enclose the attested copy of certificate for the same.

vi) Candidates seeking age relaxation must enclose the certificate of educational qualification/research experience entitling the candidates for age relaxation. (for details, please see item no. 4).

vii) The Application (consisting of two copies of printout of online application form, one copy Attendance Slip and one copy Admission card) alongwith required documents (as mentioned in item No. 13) must reach the Registrar of the University (UGC Test Centre).

viii) Application received after 1.11.2010 at the Test Centre will be rejected.

ix) Before applying Online, candidates are advised to go through detailed notification available at UGC website and also to be shortly published in the Employment News. Please note that Fee submitted through any other mode like Money Order, Demand Draft, IPO etc. will be summarily rejected.

x) The envelope containing the Application Form should be superscribed “UGC NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY TEST FOR JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP AND ELIGIBILITY FOR LECTURESHIP, DECEMBER, 2010”.

xi) The candidates must affix their recent identical passport size photographs, at the places indicated, on the printout of Online Application Form and must sign across the photograph after it is affixed so that a part of the signature spreads over the Application Form beyond the photograph. Besides, it should be duly attested by the Head of the University Department/Principal of the College/Class-I Gazetted Officer.

xii) In order to avoid last minute rush, the candidates are advised to apply early enough. UGC will not be responsible for network problems or any other problem of this nature.

UGC: PG Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child 2010-12

The University Grants Commission, based on the initiative of M/HRD, had introduced, from the year 2005-06, Post-Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child with purpose of supporting higher education through scholarship to such girls who happen to be only child in her family and also to provide incentive for the parents to observe small family norm.

Eligibility
Any single girl child being the only child of her parents is eligible under the scheme. The benefit under scheme will be available to such a single girl child who has taken admission in first year of a Master’s degree in non-professional programme in any recognized university or a post-graduate college during the current year i.e. 2010-11.
Rate of Scholarship: Rs. 2000/- p.m.
Duration of Scholarship:
2 years (for 10 months in a year)
(Total 20 months)
Number of Scholarships per year: 1200

Other Conditions:
- The scheme is for non-professional courses only at P.G. level. The scheme is applicable to such
students who have taken admissions in regular, full-time Master Degree course in any recognized
University/Institution or a Post Graduate College. Distance mode of education is not covered.
- A student who is awarded this PG Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child will not be
debarred from accepting any other scholarship.
- A student desirous of leaving the studies mid-way without completing the PG degree will have to
take prior approval from the UGC by submitting an application along with justification through the
concerned University / College / Institution. Any student who discontinues the studies without prior
approval of the UGC will have to refund the whole amount and the concerned institution will be
responsible for this refund.
- The University/College/Institution has to submit a certificate of completion of the PG Course in
respect of each student availing this scholarship.
- Affidavit on Rs.50/- Stamp Paper from SDM / First Class Magistrate / Gazetted Officers conforming that she is the only child in her family without having any brother.

Procedure for application:

Eligible students who are pursuing postgraduate 1st year course in the current year i.e. 2010-2011 may submit their applications for this scholarship in the prescribed format with relevant attested copies of all documents. The application may be submitted to the

RBI:Young Scholars Awards 2011

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has launched the RBI Young Scholars Award Scheme to generate interest in and awareness about the Indian banking sector and RBI. Under the scheme, the RBI will select a maximum of 150 young scholars through a countrywide competitive examination and awarded a scholarship.

Selection test will focus on the role and functions of RBI and banks in India and will be held in English as well as all major regional languages. Selected candidates will be required to work on projects in select offices of RBI for 2 to 3 months and will be paid a consolidated stipend of Rs 7,500/- per month during the duration of the project. RBI will assist outstation awardees in boarding and lodging. The awareness shall have no right/claim for an appointment in the RBI. Any candidate who had qualified and worked at RBI under the RBI Young Scholar Award Scheme in any of the previous years need not apply again.

Eligibility
(A) Educational Qualification: All students across India who have completed 10 + 2 years of formal education or its equivalent from recognized institutions/boards in 2010 or before and are currently pursuing their undergraduate studies. However, those having enrolled for or having acquired degree(s) higher than graduation will not be eligible. Candidates who have qualified and worked at RBI as a Young Scholar in any of the previous years are not eligible to apply.
(B) Age : Candidates should be of age 18 years or more but less than 23 years as on September 1, 2010.

All students, between 18 and 23 years of age, currently pursuing their undergraduate studies in any subject under any recognized university in India, are eligible to take the competitive examination.
There is no application fee
 

The selection test will be held on January 09, 2011 at various centres across India.
The results of the selection test are likely to be announced in the middle of March 2011.

Entrance Examination
The entrance exam will be conducted in English, Hindi and 11 other regional languages. The regional languages will be Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. The exam will be held at around 100 different locations spread all across the country. The List of Centresis given in this notification.
 

Examination Pattern and Syllabus
The examination will be of objective type with multiple choices for answers. The paper will be of approximately 90 minutes duration and will have questions related to role and functioning of the RBI, the trend of banking industry in India and general economic and financial environment of the country.
 

How to Apply
• Candidates willing to apply for the scholarship may apply in the prescribed application form available on http://www.rbi.org.in/youngscholars.aspx either on line or offline. There is no fee for application or examination.

• Candidates should have a valid email ID.
• Go to the website and follow the instructions.
• After applying online, the registered candidates should obtain a system generated printout of the registered information and sign at the appropriate place. A recent photograph should be pasted on the print-out and sent along with attested copies of the certificate on the address given below :

Call letters for the written test to be held on January 09, 2011 will be posted to all the candidates through ordinary post under certificate of posting well in advance. However, if somebody does not get the same by January 5, 2010 he/she should download the same from the RBI website. To download the duplicate call letter candidates should know their application registration number which will also be sent by email to the candidates who provide a valid email- id. Alternately, name and date of birth details can also be used for downloading the call letter from the website

National Scholarship of Students with Disabilities 2010-11

Applications are invited in the prescribed proforma from the persons with disabilities to award the National Scholarships for the year 2010-11 for pursuing technical and professional courses from recognized institutions.

No of Students to be awarded: 500
Financial Assistance can be given for computer with editing software for blind/deaf graduate and post graduate students pursuing professional courses and for support access software for cerebral palsy students.

Amount of scholarship:
Scholarship of Rs.1000/-p.m. for hostellers and Rs.700/- p.m. for day scholars studying in professional courses at graduation and above level, and Rs.700/- p.m. for hostellers and Rs.400/- p.m. for day scholars pursuing Diploma /certificate level professional. Course fee is reimbursed upto ceiling of Rs.10,000/- per year.

National Talent Search 2010

NCERT National Talent Search Scheme is a flagship activity of the NCERT started in the year 1963. The purpose of the scheme was to identify talented students and nurture their talent. Talent refers to the potentiality that manifests itself in a high level of performance in one or more specialized areas. The scheme, therefore, covers areas like Sciences, Social Sciences, Engineering, Medicine, Management and Law. It honours and helps talented students by providing financial assistance in the form of a monthly scholarship. For the courses in Basic Sciences, Social Sciences and Commerce, this assistance is provided up to Ph.D. level. For professional courses like Engineering, Medicine, Management and Law ,this assistance is given only up to Post Graduation

The NCERT conducts the National Talent Search
Examination for students studying in Class VIII only.
1. Scholarships: On the basis of the examination conducted, 1000 scholarships will be awarded for
each group of students appearing for Class VIII examinations. The amount of scholarship will
be Rs.500/- per month as per NTS rules.
2. Reservation: 15% scholarships will be reserved for students belonging to the SC category, 7.5%
scholarships for students belonging to the ST category and 3% for Physically Challenged Group
of Students.
3. Selection: There will be two-stage selection process for award of scholarship. For Stage-I,
selection will be done by States/UTs through a written examination. Students who qualify Stage
I will be eligible to appear for Stage II examination conducted by NCERT.
4. The States/UTs will also conduct the selection test for National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship
Scheme along with the Stage-I written examination for NTS.

6. Eligibility: Students of Class VIII studying in recognized schools are eligible to appear for the
respective Class VIII Stage I examination conducted by the States/UTs in which the schools are
located. There will be no domicile restriction.
7. Examination: The pattern of written examination for Class VIII will be as follows:
• Stage I examination at the State/UT level will comprise two parts, namely (a) Mental
Ability Test (MAT) and (b) Scholastic Ability Test (SAT) covering social sciences, sciences and mathematics.
• Stage II examination at the National level will comprise (a) Mental Ability Test (MAT), (b) Scholastic Ability Test (SAT) covering social sciences, sciences and mathematics, (c) Interview. Only those candidates who qualify the written examination at the National Level will be invited for interview.
8. State Quotas: Each State/Union Territory has been allotted a quota to recommend a specific
number of candidates for the Stage II examination, the details of which will be made available on
NCERT website. However, there will be no State/Union Territory Quota for the final award of
scholarship after the Stage II examination. Reservation for SC, ST and physically challenged will
be as notified in para 2 above.
9. Application Form: You may contact the State/UT Liaison officer for procuring application form.
However, application form can be downloaded from NCERT website http.//www.ncert.nic.in
10. The completed application form should be signed by Principal of the school. The candidate/Principal of the school must confirm the last date for submission of Application Form and where to submit it from the State/ UT liaison officer whose addresses are given in the end/NCERT website. Different states may have different last dates for submission of application forms. All queries relating to application forms should be made from State Liaison
Officers (LOs). No application should be sent to NCERT.
11. Fees: States and Union Territories may notify the fee required which will be paid for the Stage-I
examination. Therefore, before submitting the application form you may find out the fees charged for 2010 Stage-I Examination and also the mode of payment from the respective State Liaison Officers (LOs). However, NCERT does not charge any fee for Stage-II examination.
12. Announcement of Results: Results of the Stage-I examination will be announced by the respective State Governments/ Union Territories. Results of Stage-II examination will be announced by NCERT.
13. Indian Students Studying Abroad can appear directly for Stage II NTS Examination under
conditions prescribed in the NTS brochure for class VIII which is available on the NCERT website. Candidates may fill up relevant items of the Application Form available on the NCERT website and send to the undersigned along with a photocopy of the mark sheet of previous examination latest by March 31, 2011.
