Search Ops Across Manipur Lead to Arms Recovery, Arrest of Insurgent Leaders

Imphal, October 4: Security forces and Manipur Police continued extensive search operations and area domination in fringe and vulnerable areas across the state, leading to the recovery of a large cache of arms and the arrest of multiple insurgent cadres linked to extortion and recruitment activities.

According to official reports, on October 4, security forces recovered a significant haul of weapons from two districts:

Kanglatombi (Imphal West): recovered arms included one 9mm Carbine Sub Machine Gun with magazine, one .303 rifle with magazine, one 9mm pistol with three rounds, one .32 pistol, eight locally made guns, three BAOFENG hand-held sets, ammunition, bulletproof gear, helmets, fibre plates, and bags.

Kotzim near Kotlen (Kangpokpi): seized one Heckler & Koch G4 with magazine, two bolt-action rifles, two pull mechanism rifles, two improvised mortars, two 36 hand grenades, a tube launcher, and other items.

Alongside arms recoveries, Manipur Police carried out targeted arrests of insurgent cadres:

Imphal East: Two active cadres of KCP (PWG) - Soibam Malemnganba Meitei (44) and Shamurailatpam Prakash Sharma (44) - were arrested on charges of extorting money from the public, hospitals, and government officials. A mobile phone and Aadhaar card were seized.

Imphal West: Two RPF/PLA cadres, Thangjam Abung Meetei (31) and Naorem Priyobarta Singh (27), were arrested at Chingmeirong Mamang Leikai. A Glock pistol with 11 rounds, mobile phones, Aadhaar cards, cash amounting to ₹1,26,900, wallets, an arm licence, and a four-wheeler were recovered.

Bishnupur District: Wangkhem Santikumar Singh @ Sushil (44), an active RPF/PLA cadre, was apprehended from Kumbi-Khordrak Road, with a mobile phone and SIM card seized.

Kakching District: Leimapokpam Marjit Singh @ Khaba (23), an RPF/PLA cadre accused of recruiting youths, was arrested from Hiyanglam Makha Leikai. A mobile phone was seized.

Authorities said the arrested insurgents were involved in activities ranging from extortion to armed intimidation and recruitment drives, posing a significant threat to civilian security in the valley areas.

The Manipur Police reaffirmed that operations will continue across vulnerable districts to root out militant networks and curb the flow of illegal arms.
