Hmar Inpui Assam Hills Region Celebrates Silver Jubilee at Haflong

Haflong, October 3, 2025: The Hmar Inpui, Assam Hills Region, celebrated its 25th Anniversary (Silver Jubilee) on Wednesday with a grand function held at Moulhoi Field, Haflong. The occasion, which also coincided with the 87th Hmar Students’ Association (HSA) Day, witnessed participation of leaders, delegates, and cultural troupes from across the Northeast.

The celebration began with the unveiling of the Jubilee Stone at the Hmar Inpui Office Building, Moulhoi, by Pu K. Sapdanga, Hon’ble Home Minister, Government of Mizoram, who was the Chief Guest. Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar, Tourism Minister of Mizoram, graced the event as Guest of Honour, while Pu Lalmuanpuia Punte, MLA and Adviser to the Chief Minister (Political), Mizoram, attended as Special Guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Pu K. Sapdanga hailed the sacrifices and resilience of the Hmar people, noting that the Silver Jubilee symbolized “the strength, unity, and aspirations of a community that has come a long way in 25 years.” He urged the younger generation to aim for excellence in education, civil services, and nation-building, adding, “This Jubilee must inspire more Hmar youth to serve in Central and State services as well as excel in academics and professions.”

Tourism Minister Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar emphasized the importance of education as the foundation for Hmar progress. “Our community’s need is not just political leadership but also intellectual strength. We must encourage more Hmar scholars, officers, and professionals to emerge,” he said.

MLA Pu Lalmuanpuia Punte, in his address, called for greater cooperation among Zo ethnic groups in the Assam Hills Region, highlighting the need for unity and mutual support across communities.

The event also featured the hoisting of the HSA Day flag by Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar and the release of the Silver Jubilee Souvenir by Pu Lalmuanpuia Punte.

Cultural performances by the Dimasa, Karbi, Tuopui, and Hmar cultural units, alongside traditional dances and special numbers, added vibrancy to the programme. Eminent leaders such as Pu Debolal Gorlosa, CEM, NCHAC, and Pi Nandita Gorlosa, Cabinet Minister, Assam, also addressed the gathering.

Rev. Ros Infimate, President, Hmar Inpui GHQ, in his speech, underscored the significance of unity within the Zo ethnic family and recalled the 2023 Hmar Inpui Special Assembly resolution that reaffirmed the Hmar identity as part of the broader Mizo family.

The day-long event concluded with a vote of thanks by Upa Zardamlien Taite, Vice President, Hmar Inpui Assam Hills Region, followed by a closing prayer.

Hmar Inpui Assam Hills Region presently covers Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong districts of Assam with nearly 50 villages and remains one of the strongest Hmar socio-political bodies in the Northeast.
