Churachandpur, September 28, 2025: The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) has strongly condemned the alleged wrongful framing of Kuki-Zo individuals after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) released Thangminlen Mate on bail, citing lack of prima facie evidence against him.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the KZC described Mate’s release as “undeniable proof” that the community has been vilified and criminalized without justification. The Council alleged that the case reflects a “calculated effort to malign the Kuki-Zo people and their legitimate struggle for justice.”
According to the statement, the charges against Mate were initially manipulated by the Manipur Police, allegedly in collusion with Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, before being handed over to the NIA. The KZC said this chain of prejudice - from state authorities to a national investigative body - undermines the principles of fairness and impartiality.
The Council further criticized what it called the “selective enforcement of justice,” pointing out that individuals explicitly named in FIRs, including David Thiek and Arambai Tenggol leader Kurungrangba Khuman, continue to enjoy impunity despite substantial evidence against them. “This glaring inaction is a betrayal of justice and an assault on the dignity, security, and rights of the Kuki-Zo people,” the statement read.

The KZC accused the NIA of perpetuating bias, double standards, and political manipulation within India’s justice system. It said innocent Kuki-Zos are unfairly targeted, while the real perpetrators of violence roam free without accountability.
“The injustice cannot and will not be ignored,” declared Ginza Vualzong, Secretary of Information and Publicity of the KZC. “We demand accountability from the NIA and immediate, impartial action against those responsible for violence. Justice delayed is justice denied - and when justice is denied to one community, it is denied to all.”
The Council called on national authorities to uphold fairness, ensure accountability, and restore public trust by addressing the grievances of the Kuki-Zo community.
