Churachandpur, September 29, 2025: The Kuki Village Chiefs along the Indo-Myanmar border have jointly issued a press communiqué opposing the ongoing border fencing works, citing its adverse impact on their ancestral lands and livelihoods.
The chiefs, representing multiple villages across Tengnoupal, Chandel, and Churachandpur districts, declared a stance of non-cooperation in response to the construction. They stated they would neither accept compensation nor engage in negotiations until a political settlement is reached and normalcy returns to the state.
The communiqué highlighted that the Kuki-Zo community has consistently voiced its opposition through press releases, rallies, and memoranda, demanding the scrapping of the Free Movement Regime (FMR) and halting of border fencing. It further noted that the United Naga Council (UNC) has also opposed the project after failed talks with the government.

The chiefs appealed to authorities to immediately suspend fencing activities and withdraw security forces and machinery from the affected areas to prevent further complications.
The joint statement was signed by over 20 village chiefs, including representatives from Neh Shingnu, Lhungchin, Molm, Moreh, and other border villages. They reiterated that the fencing undermines historical ties, disrupts traditional village lands, and threatens the rights and security of border communities.
