IMPHAL, Sept 7, 2025: The Foothill Naga Co-ordination Committee (FNCC) has strongly objected to reports that the controversial Thingsat camp of Kuki militant groups may be relocated to Kharam Vaiphei village under Kangchup Police Station, Kangpokpi district, and renamed as “Lhangkichoi” camp.

FNCC Opposes Relocation of Kuki Militant Camp to Ancestral Naga Land, Warns of Tensions

In a press statement issued on Sunday, the FNCC said the development amounts to a “total undermining” of the rights of the Naga people, particularly those living in the foothills. The committee recalled that the Government of Manipur had recently assured respect for Naga sentiments while reviewing the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement with Kuki groups, leading to the withdrawal of earlier Naga agitations.

“Barely a month has passed since this assurance was made, yet today we are confronted with alarming reports that Kuki militant groups are to be provided a safe haven in our ancestral land,” the FNCC said.

The committee warned of serious consequences if the camp is established in Naga ancestral territory. It declared that the road passing through Naga land, currently used by the Kuki community as a vital link between Churachandpur and Kangpokpi, would be sealed. The FNCC also vowed that any illegal Kuki villages set up without the consent of Naga landowners would be evicted.

The statement further alleged that Kuki militants and refugees were misusing Naga land for illicit trade, drug trafficking, and smuggling, which has resulted in “unimaginable wealth being amassed and turned against the indigenous Naga people.”

Holding the Government of Manipur fully responsible for any fallout, the FNCC said bloodshed between the Kuki and Naga communities would be inevitable if the relocation plan proceeds.
