According to police, Angom had boarded a passenger bus from Imphal to Senapati and was later found in Sapormeina, a Kuki-majority area located across the buffer zone separating the warring communities. District Police, Kangpokpi, facilitated his safe transfer to Sekmai authorities.

Local reports indicate that Sapormeina villagers intercepted Angom but subsequently handed him over to the police in a gesture of humanitarian concern. The incident has drawn attention for highlighting the ongoing division and lack of free movement between the Kuki and Meitei communities, nearly three years into the ethnic conflict.

The safe return of Angom has been commended by several quarters as an act of goodwill from the Sapormeina villagers, even as the broader reality underscores that peace and reconciliation in Manipur remain a distant goal.
