The victims have been identified as Mr. Zosangkhum Hmar and Elder Lalrimawi Hmar of Tattephai village, who were reportedly abducted around 11:30 p.m. by unknown miscreants carrying weapons.

In response to the incident, the Hmar Inpui Assam Region convened a joint meeting with civil society organizations (CSOs) on August 22. The meeting strongly condemned the act and resolved to organize a peaceful protest rally across multiple locations - Haflong, Mahur, Harangajao, and Jinam Valley - on August 27 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Describing the abduction as an “inhuman and unlawful act,” the Association warned that such incidents threaten peace, security, and communal harmony in the hill district. It further urged authorities to take swift and effective action to secure the release of the abducted persons and ensure safety for all communities in the region.

The upcoming protest rally is expected to witness participation from various community bodies and CSOs to collectively demand justice and restoration of peace in the affected areas.
