LM Khaute Reaffirms Use of “Kuki-Zomi-Hmar” as Inclusive Term for the Community

In a press statement issued on Friday, Khaute referred to earlier press notes, including one dated August 21, 2024, where the term “KukiZo” had often been used. He clarified that while such references have appeared, the preferred terminology should continue to be “Kuki-Zomi-Hmar,” a term that has consistently been adopted in previous statements issued in the name of the ten MLAs representing the community.

“It has always been my endeavour to ensure usage of a suitable and appropriate terminology to describe our identity, and I cannot accept anything that excludes ‘Zomi’ and any other term that describes our identity in such press statements,” Khaute stated.

Emphasizing inclusivity, he reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the collective identity of Kuki, Zomi, and Hmar communities is accurately represented in all future communications.
