Nagaon, Aug 22: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today unveiled a life-sized statue of freedom fighter Swahid Manohar Nath at Raha in Nagaon district, paying tribute to his supreme sacrifice during India’s freedom movement.
Manohar Nath was martyred on September 20, 1942, when he, along with several others, marched towards Dhekiajuli Police Station to hoist the Tiranga. He was shot dead during the protest but left behind a legacy of courage and patriotism.
Speaking on the occasion, Sarma said Nath’s bravery exemplifies Assam’s immense contribution to the national freedom struggle. “There are countless such untold stories of valour in Assam which we are committed to promote and preserve,” he said.
