NEW DELHI, Aug 21: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday called on Union Minister for Food Processing Industries, Chirag Paswan, to discuss avenues for strengthening the food processing sector in the state.
During the meeting, Sangma highlighted the need for greater support to enhance opportunities for farmers, entrepreneurs, and self-help groups (SHGs), noting that an improved food processing ecosystem would add value to local produce and create more livelihood options.
He also presented products from Meghalaya’s farmers to the Union Minister, showcasing the state’s rich agricultural potential. Sangma expressed gratitude for the Centre’s continued support and said that with sustained partnership, Meghalaya’s food processing sector could emerge as a key driver of rural growth and economic empowerment.
Minister Chirag Paswan appreciated the initiative and assured the Union government’s commitment to strengthening value-addition and market linkages for states like Meghalaya.
The meeting is expected to pave the way for new schemes and collaborations aimed at boosting agro-based industries in the Northeast.
