ZUF(J) Deputy Army Chief, KYKL and KCP Cadres Arrested in Manipur

Imphal, July 2, 2025: In a major counter-insurgency operation, Manipur Police and security forces have arrested multiple underground (UG) operatives and recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition during coordinated intelligence-based combing and cordon-and-search operations across the state.

ZUF(J) Deputy Army Chief, KYKL and KCP Cadres Arrested in Manipur

On July 1, a self-styled Deputy Chief of Army of the Zeliangrong United Front (J) [ZUF(J)], identified as Namgaklung Kamei alias November (42) of Chingkhonglong village, Tamenglong district, was arrested near Kekrupat under Imphal Police Station, Imphal West. Authorities recovered a 9mm pistol with 10 live rounds and a mobile phone from his possession.

On the same day, an active KYKL (SOREPA) cadre, Mutum Ibohanbi Singh (49) of Andro Khuman, Imphal East, was arrested under Andro Police Station. A mobile phone was seized from him.

In another arrest under Porompat Police Station, Md. Ajad Khan alias Kathokpa (29) of Khabeisoi Sabal Leikai, was apprehended as an active member of KCP (PWG). Meanwhile, Khulem Tulajit Meitei alias Tulen (21) of Khurai Kongpal Chingangbam Leikai, an operative of KCP (Apunba), was also arrested. Both were in possession of mobile phones.

Separately, on June 30, Khoirom Ingoton Singh alias Tomba (48), a member of KCP (NOYON/MFL), was arrested from Keirao Khunou, Imphal East. He was allegedly involved in extortion activities targeting schools. Recovered items include a single-barrel gun, a 9mm pistol with 2 live rounds, bulletproof gear (helmet, jacket, plate), and radio wireless sets.

In a significant arms seizure on July 1, from Nepali Khutti, Kotlen (under New Keithelmanbi PS, Kangpokpi district), the joint team recovered:

04 single-barrel rifles

02 pull-mechanism rifles

06 improvised mortars

01 open-bore pistol

03 white phosphorus grenades

03 No. 36 hand grenades and related accessories

02 UBGL shells

45 rubber bullets

Multiple rounds of live and blank ammunition

04 tube launchers

01 tear smoke grenade

02 tear gas shells

Security forces have intensified operations across sensitive areas of the state to dismantle underground networks and combat extortion, arms smuggling, and anti-social activities.
