Tripura Govt Hikes Honorarium for Tribal Leaders, Extends Benefit to Govt Employees and Pensioners

Agartala, July 31, 2025: In a major decision aimed at recognizing the traditional leadership structure within tribal communities, the Tripura State Cabinet has approved an increase in the monthly honorarium for Samajpatis (tribal community leaders) from ₹2,000 to ₹5,000.

The announcement was made by Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha via social media on Wednesday. He stated that the enhanced honorarium reflects the government's respect for the invaluable role and cultural significance of Samajpatis in preserving tribal identity and social harmony.

In a noteworthy amendment to the existing provisions, the government has also decided to extend the benefit to eligible government employees and pensioners who serve as Samajpatis.

"This decision reflects our commitment to honoring the social contributions of tribal leaders and strengthening grassroots community governance," the Chief Minister stated.
