Six Arambai Tengol Members, Three KCP(PWG) Cadres Arrested for Assault and Extortion

Imphal, July 9, 2025: In a major crackdown on criminal and insurgent elements, Manipur Police and security forces arrested multiple individuals on July 8, 2025, for involvement in assault, extortion, and insurgent activities across Bishnupur, Imphal West, and Imphal East districts.

Six Arambai Tengol Members Arrested for Assault on Police

Manipur Police arrested six members of Arambai Tengol for physically assaulting a police officer and personnel during a bandh in Bishnupur district on June 9, 2025. The individuals were identified as:

1. Laishram Sanahal Singh alias Sana (26) – Govindagram Awang Leikai, Imphal West

2. Laishram Rishikanta Singh (20) – Govindagram Awang Leikai, Imphal West

3. Laishram Premchand alias Kandrang (18) – Govindagram Awang Leikai, Imphal West

4. Kangabam Nongdamba Singh (23) – Terakhongsangbi Ward No. 2, Bishnupur

5. Sarangthem Rabichandra alias Rabi (28) – Kangmong Maisnam Leikai, Imphal West

6. Yumnam Jaswant Singh (22) – Lourembam Maning Leikai, Bishnupur

The arrests mark a significant development in addressing recent violence linked to protest-related disruptions.

Three KCP(PWG) Cadres Arrested for Extortion Activities

In separate operations, three active cadres of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) [KCP(PWG)] were arrested for extortion in Bishnupur and Thoubal districts:

• Laitonjam Ramakanta Meitei alias Bothe (34) of Uyumpok Maning Leikai, Imphal East, a self-styled section commander, was arrested along with Thongam Herojit Singh (38) of Tengdongyan Mayai Leikai, Imphal West. The duo was extorting money from the public and local businesses in the Nambol area. Authorities say over 15 cadres work under Ramakanta, and further arrests are expected.

• In another operation, Thoudam Santosh Singh alias Henthoiba (23) of Thoubal Leishangthem Thoudam Mamang Leikai was arrested from Moirang Okshongbung, Ward No. 11, Bishnupur. He was involved in collecting extortion money from schools and colleges in Thoubal district. One mobile phone and an Aadhaar card were recovered from him.

Senior KCP(PWG) Member Held in Imphal

In a separate operation at Kekrupat, North AOC, security forces apprehended Potshangbam Jeet Meetei alias Norjit (55) of Khagempalli Panthak, Imphal West. He was involved in extorting money and issuing threats to brick field owners, government employees, and the general public. A mobile phone and a small amount of cash were seized during the arrest.

Manipur Police reaffirmed their commitment to rooting out criminal and extremist elements in the state and confirmed that follow-up operations to trace other operatives are ongoing.
