Champhai, July 14, 2025: Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), visited Champhai District today, where he chaired a high-level review meeting with government officials and held discussions with Assam Rifles on key security and development issues.
Upon his arrival at the Champhai Helipad, the Governor was received by DC Pu Mohammad Aaquib and Addl. SP Victor Zothansanga, and was accorded a guard of honour. The main meeting was held at the DC’s Conference Hall in Keifangtlang, attended by senior officials of various departments.
In his address, the Governor praised the efforts of government departments in improving public welfare and stressed the importance of effectively implementing central schemes, especially in border districts. He highlighted the need for greater public awareness, accurate refugee identification, and targeted use of limited resources to safeguard local communities.
Expressing concern over Champhai’s vulnerability to drug trafficking due to its location along the Myanmar border, he called for strong anti-drug measures and improved coordination among enforcement agencies. He also emphasized the importance of education, calling for student-friendly learning environments to help Mizo youth excel in national competitive exams.

Governor Singh noted the positive impact of PM-Kisan in the district and encouraged the formation of more Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and promotion of organic farming. He urged better implementation of schemes such as rooftop solar, waste management, Ayushman Bharat, Jan Aushadhi, and Health & Wellness Centres, while stressing nutritious food in schools and Anganwadis to support child welfare.
Deputy Commissioner Pu Mohammad Aaquib highlighted challenges posed by recent heavy rainfall and the influx of 4,653 refugees from Myanmar, calling for stronger border control and relief efforts. A detailed PowerPoint presentation on the district’s administration and security was given by SDC Pu Lalchhuanawma Ralte, while Addl. DC Pu K. Zorammuana delivered the vote of thanks.
Later, the Governor visited the Assam Rifles COB in Champhai, where he was briefed by Brig Pushpendar Sorayan, DIG HQ 23 Sector Assam Rifles, on border operations and anti-smuggling efforts. He also met with members of the Mizoram Ex-Services League (MESL).
The visit highlighted the Governor's commitment to border security, welfare delivery, education, and anti-drug efforts, reaffirming the state’s resolve to address both development and security challenges.
