Champhai, July 7, 2025: Ongoing armed clashes between Chin National Defence Force (CNDF) and Hualngoram Peoples Organisation (HPO) in Myanmar’s Chin State have triggered a renewed wave of displacement. As of today, at least 3,618 refugees, including children, have crossed over into Zokhawthar village in Mizoram’s Champhai district, according to police reports.

Sources from local authorities and Doordarshan Kendra (DDK) confirm that people have fled from villages like Khawmawi, Rihkhawdar, and nearby settlements due to intense fighting. The displaced are being provided temporary shelter, although the situation remains tense.

The Indo-Myanmar border at Zokhawthar was briefly sealed today to regulate movement, but was later reopened for humanitarian relief. Many of the new arrivals reportedly came without belongings, seeking only safety.

Reports also indicate that fresh gunfire was exchanged between CNDF and CNA forces near Rihli Camp and Vaphai since yesterday, prompting additional displacement towards Mizoram’s border villages.

In a related development, Farkawn Branch YMA volunteers retrieved the bodies of three Myanmar nationals who drowned while crossing the Tiau River amid the turmoil.

Authorities continue to monitor the volatile situation closely as Zokhawthar and surrounding areas brace for potential further influx. Local organizations and residents are extending support to the refugees despite limited resources.
