Wokha, June 13, 2025: In a stern move to enforce administrative discipline and accountability, Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton conducted surprise inspections at several government offices in Wokha district on Friday. The inspections, part of a broader push to uphold the state's 'No Work, No Pay' policy, uncovered multiple instances of unauthorised absenteeism.

The unannounced visit began at the Department of Rural Development, where Patton personally verified attendance registers and cross-checked staff presence. Out of 31 employees listed, only 12 were found at their desks. While 2 had valid leave approvals, 19 employees were absent without official sanction. Patton immediately ordered salary deductions for the absentees and directed that their names be reported to the Deputy Commissioner for further disciplinary proceedings.

At the Power Department, 3 out of 28 staff were on approved leave, but 1 was absent without notice. Similarly, deductions were ordered for the unauthorised absentee.

The Department of Economics and Statistics saw a comparatively better attendance, with only 2 out of 35 employees absent and one on approved leave.

During his interactions with department officials, Patton emphasized the importance of punctuality, proper leave procedures, and strict daily attendance tracking. “All employees are expected to attend office regularly. Leave must be officially applied for and sanctioned in advance,” he said.

He also warned that more surprise inspections will follow to ensure consistent service delivery and deter habitual absenteeism.
