Kohima, May 12, 2025, Virthli (ONP): The Naga National Council (NNC) and the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) are set to observe the 75th Plebiscite Day on May 16, 2025, at Khuochiezie (Kohima Local Ground), in a solemn commemoration of a defining moment in the Naga political movement.

The event marks the anniversary of the historic 1951 plebiscite, in which the NNC claims that an overwhelming majority of Nagas expressed their desire to live as a sovereign people, separate from the Indian Union. The plebiscite, although not officially recognized by the Government of India, remains a cornerstone of the NNC’s assertion of Naga political identity and self-determination.

A wide cross-section of the Naga public, along with representatives from different regions and traditional institutions, is expected to participate in the commemorative programme.
