Aizawl, May 27, 2025, Virthli (ONP): In an intensified crackdown on drug abuse, the Central YMA Kumpuan Sub-Committee, a special body formed to spearhead this year’s declared theme (kumpuan) under Central YMA, in collaboration with the Central Anti - Drugs Squad (CADS), has seized 839 cases of heroin between January 1 and May 26, 2025.
The Kumpuan Sub-Committee was established as part of Central YMA’s annual theme initiative to intensify action and awareness on a chosen focus area - in this case, the fight against drug abuse.
The combined efforts led to the following seizures:
• Heroin (No. 4): 839 Soap cases
• Tic Tac Heroin Capsules: 1,469
• Prescription Drugs (AP, Tramadol, etc.): 26,623 tablets
• Ganja (Cannabis): 72 kg
• Codeine Syrup: 2,232 bottles
• Foreign Liquor (Sap Zu): 69 bottles
• Local Liquor (Zu): 364 bottles
• Beer Cans: 54
A total of 737 individuals were apprehended in connection with these seizures.
The rehabilitation component of the campaign saw:
• 285 individuals provided with counselling
• 73 admitted to rehabilitation centres or homes
• 74 cases handed over to the Excise & Narcotics Department
• 5 handed over to Police
Counselling was offered daily by professionals from the Social Front under Mizoram Synod, based at the Central YMA Building, for those involved in drug abuse.
The Central YMA and CADS continue to urge the public to stand united against the drug menace and work toward a healthier, drug-free Mizoram.
