Ccpur, May 06, 2019, Virhli (ONP): In yet another day of white-washing, two goals apiece from Lalsiem Chongloi and Helsuanpau and a late strike by substitute Johnson Manlun helped SYMROPIA FC to a convincing 5-0 victory over Kanglei FC while Saikot YC also progress through after clinching a hard-fought but big score 4-0 victory over resolute Sanakhang FC in today's last matchday of the pre-quarter finals of the ongoing 16th Hmar Martyrs' Trophy 2019 played at Saikot playground, Churachandpur.
In a dominant display of first match, SYMROPIA FC were in control throughout against a Kanglei FC side who rarely threatened SYMROPIA FC goalkeeper Jeson Vaiphei. Right from the first whistle, SYMROPIA FC were dominating the proceedings as they launched waves of attack and after a thunderous Lalsiem Chongloi's volley got parried away by the Kanglei FC shot stopper Dinesh, the resistance of Kanglei FC was tattered when Lalsiem Chongloi (21) netted the opener with a powerful header in the 15th-minute and the advantage was soon doubled courtesy of a Helsuanpau (12)'s looping header in the 20th-minute and the high intensity first-half ended 2-0. The second-half saw SYMROPIA FC re-establishing dominance and just 3 minutes into the restart, Helsuanpau (12) scored his second of the match with a clinical finish after beating the offside trap but establishing such a huge advantage had not stopped the Churachandpur District Super Division League outfit from attack and to add more misery to Kanglei FC, substitute Johnson Manlun (9) made the scoreline 4-0 with a smart finish 8 minutes from time and to complete a complete a convincing 5-0 drubbing, Lalsiem Chongloi (21) added his second of the afternoon to take his goal-scoring tally to a high 6 goals in stoppage time.
The opening interval of the second match of the day between Saikot YC and Sanakhang FC was, however, tight and evenly contested as a youthful Sanakhang FC side caused threat to the experienced Saikot YC at regular intervals and after TC Lalhriatpuia denied Sanakhang FC from taking a surprise lead with a late finger-tip save off a free-kick at one end and Thangtinlen Haokip spurning a sitter off target, Saikot YC eventually put their nose in front courtesy of an own-goal by Sanakhang FC's Minlun in the 13th-minute, off an effort from Jerry Pulamte. The second-half saw Sanakhang FC continuing threat to come back into the match but hopes of comeback for Sanakhang FC was dealt a heavy blow when Daniel Mate(12) scored a crucial second goal 9 minutes from the end of regulation period and further goals from Jerry Pulamte (75th-minute) and Ronald (80th-minute) earned Saikot YC a 4-0 victory to set up a mouthwatering clash with heavyweights SYMROPIA FC on 9th May, 2019.
