CCpur, Oct 5 : The efforts to re-open schools and other educational institutions in the district which have been closed for the past month suffered a setback as a group of students in uniform held sit-in-protests at the gates of several schools and informed others to terminate their classes halfway.

Following the JAC's decision to allow schools to resume their classes sometime last week, certain section of the people particularly from the students community raised reservation but not in an organised form. These objections culminated today as several schools particularly in New Lamka area witnessed students holding sit-in-protests in front of their respective school gates. The protest then spread to other areas as the students reportedly told several other schools, that had started classes, to shut down midway.

In some localities, village authorities and women folk were on the lookout for those trying to disrupt classes while school authorities asked parents to individually drop their children.

Nevertheless the protesting students managed to close many of the prominent schools within the proper township. However, schools located in and around Tuibuong areas are said to have effectively resumed their classes without any interference.

Later in the day, the protesting students gathered at the JAC office here to air their point of view and asserted that they will continue the protest until the JAC takes steps to revitalise the people’s movement, which they felt was fading and losing its momentum.

It is not known if the JAC has any reaction over the development by the time of filing this report.
