Churachandpur, September 8, 2025: The Kuki Inpi Manipur has welcomed the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as an opportunity to press for justice and seek long-term solutions to the ongoing crisis faced by the Kuki-Zo community.

Prime Minister’s Visit Kuki Inpi Calls It an Opportunity to Seek Justice and Lasting Solutions

The statement was released following a joint meeting of KIM and its federates at the KIM Secretariat in Lamka on September 7, 2025. Representatives from various civil society organizations deliberated on recent developments, including armed group press releases and government agreements affecting the community.

The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to unity, dignity, and peaceful dialogue while emphasizing that the community’s demands are rooted in historical grievances and a need for political recognition. Among the resolutions passed, the meeting stressed that any discussions on “Free Movement” should only take place after a clearly outlined political framework. The inclusion of “Territorial Integrity of Manipur” in the extension of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement was strongly rejected, citing longstanding separation from Meitei-dominated areas since May 2023.

The leaders expressed concern over the cancellation of peaceful rallies and reported assaults on civilians by unidentified groups. They condemned such actions as undermining democratic expression and called for restraint.

The meeting also addressed the issue of symbolic gestures, such as the prolonged display of dummy coffins, and resolved to remove them with dignity, respecting customs and community appeals.

Recalling a resolution from August 30, 2025, the leaders asserted that while the Prime Minister’s visit should be welcomed, it must also be used as a platform to firmly demand justice and political recognition for the Kuki-Zo people. Temporary relief, they warned, cannot replace comprehensive solutions to the crisis.

The Kuki Inpi and civil society representatives called for sustained dialogue and urged the community to stand united in their pursuit of peace and justice, entrusting the responsibility of carrying forward this collective mission to the Kuki Inpi Council (KIC).

These resolutions, the statement concluded, will guide the community’s course of action in the coming days as they seek accountability and a lasting settlement.
