Churachandpur, July 8, 2025: The Zomi Chiefs’ Association (ZCA) has issued a strong condemnation against Major Yadu Krishnan of the 37 Assam Rifles (Khuga Battalion), accusing him and his team of committing an unprovoked and brutal assault on Mr. Ginneihthuang (46) of Tangnuam village, Churachandpur district, on July 6, 2025.
According to the ZCA statement, the incident occurred when Major Yadu and other Assam Rifles personnel in plain clothes allegedly attacked Mr. Ginneihthuang using bare fists and an iron rod, causing serious injuries that required hospitalization. The victim was also allegedly subjected to verbal abuse, death threats, and inhuman treatment, all without any provocation.
The Zomi Chiefs’ Association described the incident as a “flagrant violation of human rights” and labeled it a “disgrace” to the esteemed institution of the Assam Rifles. The group warned that such actions tarnish the image of the Indian Armed Forces and reflect a deeper issue of arrogance and impunity among certain security personnel operating in tribal areas.

The ZCA further criticized the Assam Rifles for refusing to engage with the Zomi Council (ZC) for a peaceful resolution of the issue, interpreting the silence as disrespect for indigenous institutions of justice.
The association urged the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Defence to take immediate disciplinary and criminal action against Major Yadu and ensure that personnel of the Assam Rifles operate within the bounds of justice, dignity, and constitutional law.
The statement warned that failure to act decisively would only widen the divide and deepen mistrust between the security forces and the tribal communities in the region.
The ZCA's condemnation was issued by its Information & Publicity Department, calling for urgent accountability to restore public faith in the rule of law and security institutions.
