SPs of Cachar and Tamenglong Meet to Strengthen Inter-State Cooperation

Silchar, July 2, 2025: Superintendents of Police (SP) from Cachar (Assam) and Tamenglong (Manipur) convened a crucial meeting yesterday, underscoring renewed commitment to inter-state collaboration aimed at countering insurgent and criminal activity along the Assam - Manipur border.

The meeting focused on improving the efficiency of combing, cordon and search operations, and accelerating riverine and foot patrols along the Barak and Jiri rivers - common crossing points for militants and smugglers . 

Both SPs acknowledged that community outreach, data sharing, and joint training exercises are critical to building trust and pre-empting threats. The partnership aims to address insurgent, illegal arms trafficking, and militant presence in border zones while ensuring stability for residents in both states.

As tensions simmer in parts of Manipur, especially Jiribam, the inter-state initiative seeks to pre-empt a security spillover into Assam’s Cachar district. Both sides pledged to continue regular coordination meetings and to rapidly deploy joint teams as new threats emerge.
