Aizawl, July 2, 2025: Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma has expressed serious concern over the increasing presence of teenage gangs in Aizawl, warning that the unruly behaviour of these youth groups is threatening the city’s social harmony and public safety.
During a meeting held today with the leaders of the Aizawl City Local Council Association at his office, the Chief Minister described the emergence of teenage gangs engaging in frequent group fights and violent confrontations as a growing menace that demands immediate intervention.
“Such anti-social forces must be addressed urgently,” Lalduhoma said. “Aizawl must remain a disciplined, safe and peaceful city. We cannot allow disorder to take root in our urban spaces.”
He urged local councils to step up and work closely with community volunteers to monitor and prevent such activities. Emphasising the importance of community-driven efforts, the Chief Minister called for enhanced vigilance and cooperation at the grassroots level.
Highlighting the need for safer public spaces, particularly for women and children, Lalduhoma reiterated that the city’s development must prioritise public order and well-being. He also advised Local Councils to be more responsible while assisting with Inner Line Permit (ILP) enforcement - particularly when issuing No Objection Certificates (NOCs).
The Local Council Association leaders, in turn, raised requests for a dedicated office space in Aizawl and an enhancement of their honorarium. The Chief Minister responded positively, assuring them that both requests would be duly considered.
