Aizawl, July 25, 2025: Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma chaired a key review meeting today at the CM’s Office in Aizawl, focusing on the state’s Higher & Technical Education sector. He was joined by DP&AR Minister Pu K. Sapdanga, Higher & Technical Education Minister Dr. Vanlalthlana, and senior officials.

Key Highlights from the Meeting:

NIT Mizoram Campus

The NIT campus, proposed in 2009 at Lengpui, has been delayed due to lack of forest clearance since 2017.

In 2021, application for forest clearance was submitted, and in 2023, the state allocated ₹20 crore.

CM Lalduhoma announced that a reduced penalty of ₹1.4 crore was approved by the Forest Advisory Committee and has been deposited, paving the way for construction to resume.

Mizoram State University (MSU)

As per the National Education Policy 2020, all states must have a full-fledged state university by 2036.

Plans are underway to expand PG programs in colleges across Aizawl.

Luangmual area has been earmarked as a new site for MSU, especially for Geology & Mining, with interim use of Govt. Aizawl College's Sikulpuikawn campus as the administrative building.

Faculty recruitment for the new campus will begin soon.

Mizoram Polytechnic, Lunglei

The institution is facing ongoing challenges, with a related Supreme Court hearing expected shortly.

Mizoram Engineering College

The college is set to launch from the upcoming academic year.

The state government has released ₹2541.19 lakh for infrastructure development.

Courses include Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Computer Science Engineering, with 30 seats each.

Scholarship Updates

Post-Matric ST Scholarship (2023–24): 31,652 applications received; ₹3497.69 lakh disbursed. 4,000 students yet to receive funds pending additional allocation.

Pre-Matric Scholarship (2023–24): 8,911 applicants; ₹313.64 lakh disbursed to 8,148 students.

Additional scholarships include:

Post-Matric (State): ₹3.77 lakh to 58 students

Mizoram Research Fellow: ₹64,000 to 7 scholars

RIMC Aid: ₹2.77 lakh to 4 students

Sainik School Chhingchhip: ₹280.42 lakh to 233 students

Faculty Appointments

24 part-time, 3 contract-based, and 4 faculty in Polytechnic and Law Colleges are currently unqualified.

Show-cause notices were issued on July 3, 2025; legal proceedings are ongoing for 10 petitioners.

College Accreditation

Mizoram has 23 UGC-approved colleges:

Grade A+: 1 college

Grade A: 3 colleges

Grade B++: 2 colleges

Grade B+: 2 colleges

Grade B: 10 colleges

Grade C: 2 colleges

The review meeting underlined the state’s strong push to improve infrastructure, academic quality, and student welfare in higher education.
