Sonapur, July 12, 2025: In a significant milestone for the fisheries and water innovation sector, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, today inaugurated India’s first Water Technology Park – 'Aqua Tech Park' at Bagibari, Sonapur.
Developed through a collaborative effort spearheaded by Kalong-Kopili, the state-of-the-art park is designed to showcase cutting-edge technologies in aquaculture, including aquaponics, biofloc systems, modern fish feed production, and ornamental fish breeding.
The initiative aims to empower fish farmers by equipping them with advanced knowledge and hands-on experience, ultimately enhancing their productivity and boosting incomes across Assam and beyond.

Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. Sarma lauded Kalong-Kopili for their forward-thinking initiative and emphasized the potential of solar energy in revolutionizing various sectors, including agriculture and fisheries.
He also addressed the media on other pressing matters, including the issue of encroachment in the state, reaffirming the government’s commitment to safeguarding public land and enforcing law and order.
The Aqua Tech Park is expected to serve as a hub of innovation and training, attracting entrepreneurs, researchers, and fish farmers from across the country, marking a new chapter in India’s journey toward sustainable aquaculture.
