RSS Media Chief Meets Zomi Council, Business Leaders in Churachandpur

VIRTHLI

Thuiá¹haphai, May 9, 2025, Virthli (ONP): A high-level meeting was held yesterday at the Zomi Council office in Lamka with Shri Pradeep Joshi, Media Chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), who is currently on a visit to the region.

The discussion centered on the ongoing conflict in Manipur, which erupted on May 3, 2023. Participants expressed concern over growing narratives that characterize the violence as religiously motivated or as acts of ethnic cleansing. Questions were raised regarding the destruction of over 350 Christian churches and institutions in the Imphal valley and the perceived lack of response from the RSS.

Responding to these concerns, Shri Joshi clarified that the RSS does not view the conflict as religious in nature. He underscored the importance of addressing the crisis with truth and clarity, cautioning against the spread of misinformation and divisive narratives. He emphasized that communal interpretations detract from the complexity of the situation.

The issue of internally displaced persons (IDPs), many of whom have relocated to metropolitan cities, neighboring states, and various districts within Manipur, was also discussed. Unresolved grievances and the call for a separate administration were highlighted as matters requiring urgent attention.

In addition to community leaders, members of Lamka’s business community attended the meeting. Several attendees shared personal accounts of living in the town for multiple generations, operating businesses, and maintaining peaceful coexistence with local residents. They noted that places of worship, including Hindu temples, remain unharmed, and reaffirmed the continued presence of secular values within the township.

He also interacted with some members of Lamka City of Hope, including its founder president Dr. Chinkholal Thangsing. During the meeting with the City of Hope members, several individuals were present, including Dr. Tara Manchin Hangzo (former Chairperson of the ST Commission, Manipur), Dr. V. Haokip (former Chief Medical Officer, Tribal Development), Boinu Gangte, and others. The discussion lasted for about an hour. They exchanged views on the various challenges currently faced in relation to ethnic issues in Manipur and shared ideas on possible solutions.
