Motbung, May 20, 2025, Virthli (ONP): Presidency College, Motbung, in a collaborative effort with Oasis College, Kangpokpi, successfully hosted an International Symposium on "Trans-Border Cross-Cultural Conflict Resolution: Challenges and Prospects" today. The day-long event, held at the Presidency College Seminar Hall, brought together a diverse group of scholars, academicians, and students to engage in critical discussions on regional conflicts, identity formation, and pathways to peace in borderland areas.

The symposium commenced at 10:30 AM with an inaugural session expertly guided by Miss Riphina, Assistant Professor at Presidency College. The proceedings began with an invocation by Rev. K. Hangnung, President of NEI Baptist Theological College and Seminary, Silchar, followed by a warm welcome address from Dr. Sheikhohao Kipgen, Principal of Presidency College. The keynote address, delivered by Dr. Thathang Vaiphei, the convenor of the symposium, underscored the urgent need for robust academic and policy-level dialogues concerning conflict resolution within culturally diverse cross-border regions.

The intellectual core of the symposium was structured around three insightful technical sessions:

Session I: Professor Jangkhoham Doungel from Mizoram University presented a comprehensive analysis of the political dimensions driving ethnic conflicts in the region, offering nuanced perspectives on their origins and persistence.

Session II: Professor Jangkhohamang Guite from Nagaland University's History Department delved into the intricate historical narratives that underpin identity-based disputes, shedding light on their enduring impact on contemporary relations.

Session III: Following a lunch break, Professor Pum Khan Pau, also from Nagaland University, provided compelling insights into the transformative potential of historical reconciliation as a potent tool for fostering peace and healing divisions.

The symposium fostered a vibrant environment of academic exchange and community engagement, witnessing active participation from faculty members, research scholars, and students representing various institutions. Thomas O. Khongsai and Dr. Hoipi Haokip skillfully moderated the sessions, ensuring productive discussions. Dr. Onkholun Haokip and Miss Kimneithem Kipgen diligently served as rapporteurs, meticulously documenting the proceedings and summarizing key takeaways.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Ruth Nengneilhing, Principal (in-charge) of Oasis College. She lauded the fruitful collaboration between the two institutions and emphasized the critical importance of sustained dialogue and rigorous research in effectively addressing complex cross-cultural and geopolitical conflicts.
