Guwahati, May 12, 2025, Virthli (ONP): Kalmawizo Hmar, a 10-year-old emerging musical talent from Muolhoi, Haflong in Dima Hasao district of Assam, has secured the first position in the 3rd State Level Rabindra Sangeet Competition 2025 (Group A category). The competition was organized by the Assam Linguistic Minorities Development Board to commemorate the 164th Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore.
The grand finale of the event took place on 12th May 2025 at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra, Panjabari, Guwahati, drawing participants from across the state in both Rabindra Sangeet and Rabindra Nritya categories.
Kalmawizo, daughter of J. Rokhawmlien Hmar and Felicia L. Hmar, began singing at the remarkable age of just 2 years and 9 months. Over the years, she has evolved into a celebrated performer, with several music videos to her credit. She rose to online fame through her moving rendition of Assam’s state anthem "O Mur Apunar Dekh," which resonated widely with audiences and made her a social media sensation.
Her win at the prestigious state-level competition is being seen as a proud moment not only for her hometown of Haflong but also for the broader Hmar community and the state of Assam.

The event was part of the Assam Government’s ongoing efforts to promote Tagore’s cultural legacy among linguistic minorities and to encourage young talent in classical Indian music and dance inspired by Tagore’s works.
