Aizawl, April 16, 2025, Virthli(ONP): Mizoram Home Minister Pu K. Sapdanga reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring a peaceful and secure state boundary, stating that this remains the top priority in the ongoing discussions regarding the Mizoram-Assam border issue.

Chairing the seventh meeting of the Mizoram State Boundary Committee at the Directorate of Forensic Science Laboratory Conference Hall, MINECO, the Home Minister emphasized that efforts have been made to safeguard Mizoram’s interests without compromising peace. He highlighted the formation of a four-member Study Group on January 25, 2024, tasked with conducting an in-depth review of the boundary issue. According to Pu Sapdanga, the group has made significant progress and is well-equipped with relevant documents and data.

He also acknowledged that discussions with key stakeholders, including community leaders and political representatives, have been productive and constructive. The minister called for a unified and prepared approach from Mizoram’s side ahead of any inter-state dialogue.

Present at the meeting were Revenue Minister Pu B. Lalchhanzova, Adviser to the Chief Minister (Political) Pu Lalmuanpuia Punte, Chief Secretary-in-charge Pu H. Lalengmawia, and members of the Study Group on the Assam-Mizoram Boundary. Representatives from various political parties and civil society organizations — including ZPM, MPCC, AAP, BJP, MZP, MSU, CYMA, and the Joint Action Committee on Inner Line Regulation and Forest Demarcation (JAC on ILRFD) — also attended the session, along with officials from the Home Department and experts on border issues.

During the meeting, preparations were discussed for the upcoming State Secretary-level talks between Mizoram and Assam, scheduled to be held on April 25 in Guwahati. The Mizoram delegation will be led by Home Secretary Pu Vanlalmawia, who will be accompanied by seven senior officials. The meeting is expected to cover a broad range of matters relevant to the boundary discussions.
