Tuithaphai: On Sunday, April 6, a tragic incident occurred at the Khuga Dam spillway near Sehken village where a young boy, Lienchinsang @ Sasang Touthang (16), son of Lunkhohao Touthang from Bijang, accidentally drowned while swimming. Despite immediate rescue efforts by volunteers, his body was not found until the following morning.

His body was eventually recovered at around 10:28 AM on Monday, April 7, 2025, by members of the Hmar Youth Association (HYA) Rengkai Branch, assisted by local volunteers. The body was found downstream from the point where he had drowned.

The location of the drowning is known to be particularly dangerous, according to locals. A large number of volunteers from various philanthropic organizations across Churachandpur district participated in the search and rescue operation. Sasang’s body was later transported by a KKL ambulance.

Sasang Touthang was a Class IX student at Logos English High School, B. Aijalon.

According to information gathered, Sasang and his cousins were swimming in the Khuga Dam spillway when the tragic accident occurred. While the cousins managed to swim to safety, Sasang was caught in a strong current and pulled underwater. Attempts to rescue him at the time were unsuccessful.

Expressing gratitude, Upa Laldawnlin Varte, Convenor of the Joint Philanthropic Organisation (JPO), extended thanks to all who participated in the rescue operation. He also urged the public to remain cautious around Khuga Dam and Tuithapui, especially during peak seasons.
