CHURACHANDPUR, Jul 27: The Hmar People's Convention (Democratic) GHQ has formally launched a campaign to save the Khuga river under the banner 'Save Tuithapui, Save River' at multiple locations along the river course, today.
In a move that marked a new departure for the SoO group, the HPC(D) has tie up with most of the Hmar civil societies and villagers dwelling along the river to start the campaign to save the river.
Cleaning up the river and clearing its path were the first steps they took today. In some location, excavator was deployed to clear the river while in most places volunteers manually cleaned the river area.
The armed group's defence secretary Alan Famhoite said they will continue the campaign in the coming days and sought cooperation of individuals, CSOs and others to help save the river. (inpu:Sangai Express)
