Gogocha was in scintillating form as his brace(2 goals) and a goal apiece from Cornelius Pudaite and Thangtinlen Haokip earned Sielmat YC a place into the semi-finals after a 4-1 routing of ABC-Saidan while heavyweights FAST-A also advance into the last-four as a goal apiece from Henry Gangte and Michael Joute helped them beat Teksiepu FC in today's quarter-finals match of the ongoing 14th Hmar Martyrs' Trophy 2017 played at Saikot playground, Churachandpur.
In today's first quarter-finals match, holders Sielmat YC, who were needing a commanding performance to revive their fear factor as the tournament entered its penultimate stage, started the match brightly as a 7th-minute goal from Cornelius Pudaite cleared any doubt of an unlikely defeat and moments later last year's top-scorer Thangtinlen Haokip doubled the advantage through a penalty he earned by himself after being brought down inside the penalty area and the first-half ended 2-0 in favour of the reigning champions.
The second-half began with Sielmat YC extending their lead through L.Gogocha after fine work by Thangtinlen Haokip but a 49th-minute strike by Abednago gave ABC-Saidan a life-line and into the stoppage time of second-half, the game was put beyond reach when Gogocha added his second of the afternoon to give Sielmat YC a comfortable 4-1 victory that sent them through to the semi-finals.
In the day's second match between FAST-A of Rengkai and Teksiepu FC, a 14th-minute strike from Henry Gangte gave the Rengkai outfit an early lead as the tightly contested first-half ended 1-0 to FAST-A.
The match restarted with both sides pressing high for goals and despite FAST-A having had a better share of possession, they could not find their second goal and in the meantime, Teksiepu FC looked threatened at times on the break but to end any hope of a Teksiepu FC's comeback, Michael Joute capitalised on a defensive lapse by Teksiepu FC to head home his side's second goal and as the match was heading to an end Teksiepu FC managed to pull a goal back through a Pauzalel's penalty but the goal just proved to be a consolation as FAST-A emerged 2-1 winners to book their place into the semi-finals.
