Aizawl, June 17, 2016 (PTI): Mizoram home minister R Lalzirliana on Thursday day said the state government would soon initiate peace talks with Manipur-based militant group Hmar People's Convention (Democratic).
The state government would not concede to the demand for a separate autonomous district council as the people of Mizoram were against further balkanisation of the state on ethnic lines, he said while addressing the annual conference of the Mizoram Police Service Association (MPSA).
"Though we have sent feelers through the local leaders in the HPC(D) demand area, the official initiatives would soon be undertaken," the minister said.
Negotiations between the state government and HPC(D) leadership fizzled out after a deadlock was reached on the issue of extension of the period of suspension of operations in August 2013.
