About the Course:
Government responses to threat of terrorism since the 2001 have placed enhanced restrictions and regulations that directly affect the voluntary sector as a whole and particular voluntary organizations individually. In this context, managing voluntary organizations has become an immensely challenging task because it requires human and organizational flexibility without compromising on vision mission, accountability and transparency goals of the organization. It requires managerial skills of highest order tailored specifically towards the context and value bases of the voluntary sector. The inputs provided in the current two year regular programme has proved inadequate. Many middle-level functionaries have been demanding advanced educational inputs for coping with the challenges faced by them in managing their respective organizations. To respond to the need, this programme on Management of Voluntary Organizations is being introduced and focuses on management of those voluntary organizations engaged in developmental work aimed to improve the quality of life of the marginalized sections. This programme is intended to build analytical, research, finanacial management capacities of functionaries and to prepare them for leadership positions in voluntary organizations engaged in social development.
The academic schedule of the programme is planned in such a way that 10 courses which are mainly taught courses out of a total of fourteen courses will be completed in the first semester. Duration of the first semester will be 27 weeks (Phase I). At the end of the first semester, the students will be required to do eight weeks of internship (Phase II) and prepare a project report based on their internship. The four courses of the second semester have to be learnt by doing during the internship. Orientation and reading material for the four courses of the second semester will be given to students before commencement of their internship. As a result, and the duration of the second semester will be 5 weeks of classes (Phase III).
