Imphal, July 16, 2025: Around 100 displaced villagers from Doilaithabi, currently residing in a relief camp near Sajiwa, attempted to return to their native village on Wednesday morning. However, they were stopped near Pukhao Terapur by authorities due to the area’s sensitive location in a fringe zone prone to ethnic tension.

The District Administration, in coordination with the police, acted swiftly to prevent any potential law-and-order situation. A company of Mahila CRPF personnel has been deployed to maintain peace and provide support.
Senior officers from both the civil administration and police department are currently engaging in dialogue with local community leaders to explore a peaceful and safe resolution. The authorities emphasised the need to balance the desire for resettlement with the imperative of public safety.

Officials confirmed that the situation remains calm and under control, and that it is being closely monitored by senior officials on the ground to ensure the security of all parties involved.
The attempted return is part of a broader trend, as several displaced families across Manipur express growing desire to return home, more than two years after the outbreak of ethnic violence in May 2023, which displaced thousands across the state.
