HPC(D) delegation to meet Mizoram govt for talks

Aizawl, Aug 8 (PTI): The Hmar People's Convention (Democratic) outfit have submitted the names of the six delegation members to represent the outfit in talks with the Mizoram government scheduled to be held this Wednesday, a senior home department official today said.

The official said that the HPC(D) delegation members would not comprise of any militant, but civilians from Mizoram and Manipur.

The delegation, led by Lalthaliana of Manipur, would arrive in Aizawl tomorrow and the talks would began at 11 AM on August 10.

Other delegation members are former President of Hmar Inpui in Manipur John Pulamte, President of the Hmar Students Association (HSA) Lalthlamuana Hmar, Francis Songate, Rohringa and Thanglianchhunga.

The state government delegation would be led by Additional Secretary for Home Lalbiakzama, Joint Secretary for Home Lalhriatpuia, SP, CID (SB) Rodingliana Chawngthu and OSD (Home) David H. Lalthangliana, the official said.

Formed soon after the Mizoram government and the HPC signed an agreement in 1994, the HPC (D) has been indulging in violence in the state from across the border.

The outfit has been demanding a separate autonomous district council under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution by carving out the areas adjoining Manipur.
