Manipur ADC poll re-scheduled on June 1

IMPHAL, Apr 17: Election to the six Autonomous District Councils of Manipur scheduled on May 30 has been re-scheduled on June 1, according to a decision of the State Cabinet adopted today.

The ADC poll has been postponed as May 30 is Saturday which is prayer day for the Seventh Day Adventist Christian group which falls on May 30, said Government spokesman and Minister M Okendro.

The Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister O Ibobi started at 4 pm in the conference room of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.

As decided at the Cabinet meeting, polling would start at 7 am and the polling booths would remain open till 4.30 pm. In case the need for re-poll arises, it would be held on June 6. Counting of votes would be done on June 10 before the whole election process is completed on June 17.

The ADC election would be held under the supervision of the State Election Commission.

The State Election Commission’s proposal to hold ADC election was approved by the State Cabinet at a meeting held on March 27.

Draft electoral roll for the forthcoming election was published on March 30 and it is reported that the final electoral roll would be published on April 20.

Public notification for the election would be issued on April 30.
