DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 29 (MExN): A sizable consignment of explosive gelatine, alongwith detonators and fuse wire, weighing around 115 kilograms was caught at the Dimapur railway station on Thursday, September 29. One person indentified as Alex Hmar (20 years) was arrested while a second, indentified as Rick Hmar managed to escape. The catch was the result of a combined effort of GRPS and RPF personnel stationed at the railway platform.

[caption id="attachment_4778" align="aligncenter" width="400" caption="Alex Hmar alongwith the cache of explosives under the custody of GRPS, Dimapur on September 29. (Morung Photo)"][/caption]

The seized explosives included 920 gelatine sticks (weighing 125 grams each), 500 detonators and a roll of fuse wire measuring around 300 feet. The outer covering of the gelatine sticks bore the name of the manufacturing unit – one ‘Amin Explosives Pvt Ltd based in Yenvera, Nagpur.
According to Government Railway Police Station, Dimapur, the explosives were being shipped from Haflong in Assam to be disposed off in Dimapur to some unknown buyers here. The preliminary interrogation of the detained person revealed that he was hired by the absconding Rick Hmar for a sum of Rs. 4000 to assist the latter in transporting the explosives till the railway’s vehicle parking lot in Dimapur.
They had boarded a passenger train (BG Express) at Lumding earlier in the morning and were dressed in Indian Army combat fatigues. The train reached Dimapur at around 9:00 am. The explosives were contained in six bags concealed beneath garments. Sometime in November last year, 700 sticks of gelatine were caught from one person at the platform, who had alighted from the same passenger train.
GRPS said that when the duo was asked to disclose what was carried in their luggage, they told that they were carrying CSD items. However, they failed to produce any supporting documents or ID cards. Meanwhile, absconder Rick allowed Alex to do the talking and dashed towards the footbridge in the northern side of the platform making good his escape.
GRPS personnel also brought up the matter of criminal elements taking undue advantage of military fatigues. Military personnel usually take offence when railway police personnel ask them that they allow their luggage to undergo normal security check, just like other civilian passengers. This rather antagonistic attitude of the military personnel discourages railway police from frisking them; on the other hand it encourages criminals to take undue advantage, GRPS said.

More that 7,200 Indian Jews to immigrate to Israel from Manipur and Mizoram

Jerusalem: September 27 (PTI):It is expected that the Israeli government will approve the long awaited ‘Aliyah’ (immigration) of more than 7,200 Indian Jews from Manipur and Mizoram, two North-eastern states of India, in coming weeks, a media report said.

The decision to allow the last members of the “lost” Bnei Menashe tribe to immigrate to Israel is being greeted with excitement by local Evangelical Christian groups, who view it as fulfillment of Biblical prophecy and who have pledged financial support for the move, ‘The Jerusalem Post’ daily reported.

The Ministerial Committee on Immigration and Absorption, headed by Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, decided, about three months ago, “in principle” to bring the remaining 7,232 members of the northeastern Indian community to the Jewish state

“I am very optimistic that within the next few weeks we will at last have a historic breakthrough which will allow the lost tribe of Bnei Menashe to return to Zion,” Michael Freund, founder and chairman of Shavei Israel, a Jerusalem-based organisation that has been at the forefront of Bnei Menashe immigration to Israel, was quoted as saying.

More than 1,700 members of the north-eastern Indian Jewish community, referred as Bnei Menashe (sons of Menashe), have immigrated to Israel over the last decade, but their aliya was subsequently halted in 2007 over the issue of their “Jewishness”, even though the Israeli Chief Rabbinate had earlier recognised the community as “descendants of Israel”.

The community claims descent from one of the 10 lost tribes of Israel, who were sent into exile by the Assyrian Empire more than 27 centuries ago.

Their ancestors are believed to have wandered through Central Asia and the Far East for centuries, before settling in what is now northeastern India, along the border with Burma and Bangladesh.

AIZAWL, September 20 (NNN): Zoramthanga, president of the Mizo National Front (MNF), main opposition party in Mizoram legislative assembly has apologised to the people for 'the mistakes' it had committed during the MNF tenure in Mizoram. Addressing the Aizawl City Joint Block Workers Meet in Vanapa Hall today, Zoramthanga who is also the former chief minister of the state said the party leaders have asked forgiveness of God and the public for the shortcomings and mistakes committed during the MNF rule.
Referring to the corrective measures to be taken up by the MNF in the event of coming back to power Zoramthanga said 'national core committee' has been constituted to look into the entire affairs. The meeting was also addressed by the new party adviser Mr. Liansuama.
In a resolution the party blamed the Congress government for bad road condition in the State and passing the Mizoram Motor Vehicle Taxation (Amendment) Bill, 2011and collecting road tax for 15 years at a time. Meanwhile, Mizoram unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) strongly condemned that the government introduce Life time road tax (15 years).
